Lars Sullivan is battling a knee injury that led to a match with Matt Hardy being pulled from this week’s Smackdown television show. WrestlingObserver.com reports that the injury is worse than originally believed.

WWE has been giving Sullivan a monster push and a lengthy absence could derail their plans. Here’s hoping it turns out to be a minor injury and he doesn’t miss much time.

Once Sullivan did make his big debut, old posts from bodybuilding message boards went viral again and he was fined $100,000 for this infraction that took place before he was even with WWE. Now Sullivan is injured and it could be a serious knee issue. Hopefully, an MRI will come back with positive results.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Sullivan is now working with The Lucha House Party which probably isn’t helping him pay off that $100,000 fine to WWE. They might be grooming him for big money, but with this latest injury, that might cause Vince McMahon to forget all about The Freak.
“He’s been through a lot of stuff, I mean he was fined $100,000 no matter what, that’s pretty serious. It’s probably not the time you’d be happy to be injured is when you got a $100,000 fine because I’m sure his downside coming from NXT isn’t high, but he could make money being — I’ll put it this way if he would have come in and beaten John Cena [at WrestleMania as initially booked] then he’d probably be on the top of the card now. At least then he’d be making money and now he’s with the Lucha House Party and that’s not giant money just yet. I mean of course, they’re grooming him for giant money, but this doesn’t help timing-wise.”
“You know you take the guy out of the picture — you know how Vince [McMahon] is. Vince may just move onto the next toy and I mean I could see that happening. Maybe or maybe Vince — I mean they don’t have anyone like him that’s the thing. They don’t have anybody else like him so maybe.”

One big thing Lars Sullivan has going for him in this situation is that he looks like the kind of guy Vince McMahon would love and push to the moon. Then again, so was Mason Ryan.

We’ve seen Vince McMahon get bored with a toy before and move on plenty of times. Whether they’re too controversial or things just don’t mix. You can look at Test, Muhammad Hassan, Nathan Jones, or any number of other Superstars who got pushes only to have their character drop down the card or fade away for one reason or another.
The fact is that Vince McMahon has been doing this for so long and lived in his own WWE bubble that he really does have a piece in his brain that views WWE has his big toy chest and Superstars as his toys. Just like a child, McMahon can get bored with a toy or sour on it quickly.
We will have to wait and see what’s next for Lars Sullivan. The company could certainly use him because WWE needs another big Superstar, but McMahon might not think it’s worth the time anymore.
